For a Good Use of Time…

tb1shadsoft.jpg

If you’re like me, you’ll do anything to save time. But how often have you sat down to do something imagining it will take you one hour, and then two or three hours later you find you’re still at it…?

Working online as we do, time is one of our most valuable resources. Its important we use it well.

But the crazy thing is, we guard our time so preciously that very often we don’t make time for some of the most valuable activities.

Split-Testing for example.

It took me a lot longer than it should to begin split testing my sites, but once I started, I wondered how I managed to make any money without it. Not only that, but whenever I do sit down with it now, I allocate 30 minutes to set up a page, and 15 minutes to make changes, and I never overun on either.

It amazes me how often people think split-testing is beyond them, or only something they should do when they’ve got millions of visitors daily.

That is a false perception.

Sure the big sites use split testing, but many of them claim they only got so big because of split testing.

Take Derek Gehl for instance: Split testing and tracking is the big secret he and the Internet Marketing Center used to turn a paltry $25 into over $54,700,000 in online sales.

Yes, that’s no mistake: $54 Million!

As I learned pretty quickly – Split Testing is best applied when the site is still small; but once applied, it will help it to grow bigger much faster than a site which doesn’t use it.

Let me explain why:

Imagine you were making just $95 a week from your website and you wanted to follow the lazy man’s path to online riches.

Let’s say you decided to keep your effort level to a minimum by split testing just one factor every week -like 2 different headlines or two different images on your sales page.

Then the next week you’d split-test something else.

Imagine in each of those weekly tests you identified a headline or a slightly cheaper source of traffic or an image change that increased your response by just 10%.

So the first week through effective testing and tracking you’d increase your turnover from $95 to $104.50.

$95 x 1.1 = $104.50.

Now here’s where it gets exciting – even if you’re a lazy internet marketer.

Every one of these improvements is exponential -they don’t add they MULTIPLY.

Watch how your online income soars from those tiny weekly improvements…

From $95 a week to $13,494 a week in 12 months…

If you invested just 6 months split-testing one tiny improvement a week, you’d end up with a total of 26 small, incremental improvements to your online business process.

Your online turnover would increase by 10% a week for 26 weeks…

That’s $95 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 x 1.1 = $1,132.26

Your small turnover of just $95 a week expands to $1,132 a week.

If you continued making these small improvements – one every week – each one multiplying upon the other… in just 12 months you’d be making $13,494 every week…

All from one web site that was only making you $95 a week before you started tracking and split-testing.

NOW do you see the power of split testing?

And the wonder of it is, that its not expensive, nor time consuming. In fact, you won’t believe how little it costs to get started.

    Keith – thanks for asking…

Split Testing is what you do when you want to find out what works best on your website.

Lets say you’ve got 4 ideas for a headline and you’re not sure which one will sell best. A split test mechanism will display them all the same number of times over a given period and report on how many actions were achieved by each one.

An action could be a sign-up, or a sale, depending on what you specified at the start.

Split testing can apply to the whole page, or to a given segment of it. You can test the results of putting audio on your page, video on your page, a picture, anything.

Its an important process, because we’re all taught that certain things really work to improve signup rates, but every website is different. So what really worked on one website may have a completely different effect somewhere else.

It is good Internet Marketing practice to be split testing all the time.

    Best wishes
    Tim

Tim. I did not realize it, but I am doing a split test with your free items.
I can see at my autoresponder which items were downloaded and can see at my site which page is getting more hits.

That has shown me already more than I ever knew before about online marketing.

And all I did was think, hey if I am putting in one address here, why not put the other page in too?

    Remarkable.
