Build it FAST - short thought

tb1shadsoft.jpg

I hope your list-building activities are going well. How many signups have you had in the past week?

Any idea? - hazard a guess?

You’ll find it helps to have a set of metrics in your head at all times and to record your results. You need to know things like how many signups you’re getting per day (work it out from how many you’re getting per week), and how much you’re earning per week and per month.

I keep a chart on my wall with a list of weeks on the horizontal axis and the number of signups on the vertical axis. You can expect to see some spikes here and there, when you start a particular promotion or other, but the trick is to try and reduce the fall-off from each spike every time so that the underiding trend of signups per week continues upwards.

One of the most effective list-building activities is networking with others in your niche. If you haven’t already, make sure you book yourself into the next Internet Marketing conference you see advertised. Some of the people you meet at these events will help you to leverage your online business (by building your list) very quickly.

I’ve struck up some great partnerships from the events I’ve been to and I can tell you, nothing else I’ve done has had such a dramatic effect on my business.

When you meet people and establish these kind of partnerships, whether you do it at conferences or online, be honest with your metrics. Sometimes its easy to exaggerate about how big your list is, and its tempting to do so to attract joint venture partners, but don’t do it.

Why?

Well. What do you think is more important to a Joint Venture partner, the size of your list or its responsiveness?

Its responsiveness of course, and here’s why…

People go into JVs for the long-term. It should never be a one-off hit to promote each other’s site, it should involve a total understanding of each others business so that you have no qualms about promoting them to your list and vice versa.

One of the best measures of how good your potential JV’s product or service is, is the responsiveness of his list. If, from a list of 2,000 he only gives you 10 signups, then you’ll know that he’s not got as good a product (nor is he servicing his list as well) as someone who gets you fifty or more signups from the same sized list.

Size matters, but it will come in time, and your list will accumulate a lot quicker if its responsive.

So, if you’ve got a list of 900, don’t be tempted to call it 1,000. Or if you’ve got 4,500 don’t be tempted to round it up to 5K because your JV partner will use whatever number you give him to calculate your responsiveness. And it is from that, not your list size, that he will judge the quality of you as a marketer.

Keep an eye on your metrics, and look out for opportunities to network with others, both online and off.

Good luck with all you’re doing.

    Hi Tim

I have only have affiliate websites at present.

As you know I purchased the bundle of software offered in lesson 2 and written four articles to submit. I find the article submitter has a few problems. It does not cope with two articles at a time, I haven’t tried more than that yet and it has a tendency to lock up and then I have to reboot the computer. It’s fine when it does work.

I feel that I am on the right path with your lessons and once I have my own product which I feel is worth promoting I will have my own web site.

    Regards

    Vernon

Thanks Peter, and Vernon - well done with article submitter. I’m glad to hear how well you’re getting on.

It works fine on my machine (I’m sorry to say!) … and so does the audio. I’d be interested to hear if anyone else trouble with it.

You may want to have a look at an online option for submitting articles, if its not working for you. Try

    - Sorry Vernon, I don’t mean to single you out, it just helps to throw the question wide in order to see whether its a problem at my end, on the server, or at your end.

I’ll keep trying to get to the bottom of this for you.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Tim
