So this simple mind figured "think inside the box" of 500 years ago. Did they have maps? (Assuming a known North direction and the farthest points N, E, S and W. Draw a rectangle, then draw the diagonals and, voila the point of intersection is the geographical center of England. Now, this may not be how they did it then, but, just remember, this is a colonist doing this off the top of his head at 8:00 AM. AND, ... although we may have made remarkable progress in some areas, cartography in the schools is not one. Other areas may come to your mind. How about choosing presidents?
