Broadcasting Live from Meriden, UK

October 6, 2007 by tim

Here’s a point of interest, a 500-year-old monument marking the geographical center of England.

If you have any idea how they could be so sure where the center was 500 years ago, please let me know! (they got it right)
Anyway, I’m here because its the location of Brit Pack Live, the UK’s cherished homegrown Internet Marketing Event, and I’m in good company - Read on…

Meriden

You could be here too. If you’re in the UK, you really would need a good excuse not to get in your car, or jump on a train and head for the center of the country right now. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn from experts like Simon Hodgkinson and Jeremy Gislaison, about how to create a $1.7M launch… or quiz Tracy Repchuck on how she made so much money from a standing start only 8 months ago… John Delaviera’s here too, and Nathan Anderson. Plus Scott Paton, the Podcast expert and Pat Lovell the SEO guru…

I’m speaking at 11.30 am on Sunday, about Viral Spiral marketing and how you can build a list of 5,000 in just eight weeks, like I did a year ago. If you want to learn all this, and discover the methods I have used to turn viral marketing multi-dimensional, get over here quickly… there are still a few places left.

And if you can’t make it - be sure to watch it online: LIVE

Remember, 11.30am to us is 06:30 to you if you’re on Eastern States time. Sorry if that’s early for you, but I promise it will be worth it!

If you’ll allow a “colonist” to give his perspective - Columbus sailed this way a little over 500 years ago, so I figured his navigational aides must have been available in England.
So this simple mind figured “think inside the box” of 500 years ago. Did they have maps? (Assuming a known North direction and the farthest points N, E, S and W. Draw a rectangle, then draw the diagonals and, voila the point of intersection is the geographical center of England. Now, this may not be how they did it then, but, just remember, this is a colonist doing this off the top of his head at 8:00 AM. AND, … although we may have made remarkable progress in some areas, cartography in the schools is not one.
Other areas may come to your mind. How about choosing presidents? Feel free to add others ;-)

The geographic centre of England is in a paddock at Lindley Hall Farm, owned by Charles and Margaret Farmer.
However many English people still believe the country’s centre is in Meriden, 11 miles (18 kilometres) away.

    Hi Tim

Meriden may or may not be the centre of England (or is that England and Wales?) but it was certainly the place to be that weekend.

Even our car expiring on route didn’t spoil what was a genuine breakthrough weekend for us, as for many others.

If your next event in November is half as good and the networking goes half as well, it will be a brilliant place to be.

And no, I’m not on commission!

Just get there and network, people, if you possibly can.

    All the best, Tim

    Roy
